Crypto Basics

Digital assets — beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

Beginner — What is crypto?

What is cryptocurrency?

Cryptocurrency is digital money secured by cryptography and recorded on a blockchain. Bitcoin was the first; today there are thousands of tokens.

Bitcoin vs. altcoins

Bitcoin (BTC) is the largest and most widely adopted. Altcoins like Ethereum, Solana and XRP serve different purposes and carry different risk profiles.

Wallets & exchanges

A wallet holds your private keys. An exchange matches buyers and sellers. On our platform you deposit crypto and trade from your account balance.

Volatility

Crypto can move 5–10% in a day. That creates opportunity and risk. Start small and use stops.

Intermediate — Networks & fees

Blockchain layers

Layer 1 blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum settle transactions directly. Layer 2s like Arbitrum process transactions faster and cheaper on top.

Gas fees

Gas is the fee paid to process a transaction. Fees spike when networks are busy. Always check fees before depositing or withdrawing.

Stablecoins

Stablecoins like USDT and USDC are pegged to the US dollar. They let you move value without exiting to a bank account.

Tokenomics

Tokenomics covers supply, demand, issuance and utility. Coins with fixed or deflationary supply can be more valuable if demand grows.

Advanced — On-chain data

Exchange flows

Large inflows to exchanges often mean selling pressure. Outflows to wallets can mean holders are accumulating.

Whales & large holders

Wallets holding large amounts can move markets. Monitoring their activity adds context to price action.

Hash rate & network health

For proof-of-work chains, rising hash rate means more security. For proof-of-stake, watch validator participation and staking ratios.

Macro correlation

Crypto increasingly correlates with risk assets like tech stocks during macro events. DXY, rates and ETF flows all matter.
